Designed by Peter Varga, the 718 Cayman is the first generation to use turbocharged engines, with the "718" name chosen to pay tribute to Porsche's racing heritage. The GT4, designed by Fabian Schmölz and introduced in 2019, is a performance-oriented version of the Cayman, using a 4.0L MDG flat-6, a 6-speed manual transmission (a 7-speed dual clutch is available as an option) and a more aggressive stance and bodywork. A more extreme version, the GT4 RS, was introduced in 2021.
